The message from healthcare executives responding to your latest survey on key information technology issues is clear: Health IT in the nations hospitals, physician offices and other healthcare organizations is proceeding at a snails pace and will continue to do so unless and until the government provides broad subsidies to accelerate the adoption process (Still taking baby steps, Feb. 25, p. S1). Many just dont have sufficient capital for this and other competing needs. Now is the time for healthcare leaders to band together to get this same message to their congressional delegations. This must become a top federal healthcare priority. Every day of delay we all suffer directly or indirectly in terms of the safety, quality, efficiency, affordability and accessibility of our healthcare system.
