The chairman of the New Jersey Senates Health Committee seeks to cover all New Jersey residents by 2011. In its first phase, it would provide coverage to uninsured children and their parents who enroll in the existing state FamilyCare plan, at a cost of about $29 million. The second phase would create a self-funded, state-sponsored health plan for all residents, at a cost of $1 billion. The price of the plan to consumers would depend on a family's income and size. The plan has not been endorsed by Vitales fellow Democrat, Gov. Jon Corzine.
