Regarding Study finds bias in referral patterns:
Based on the article, 55% of Medicaid patients were referred to physician-owned facilities. This demonstrates that physician-owned facilities are bearing the brunt of the Medicaid population and thereby relieving most of the burden that community hospitals traditionally faced. Furthermore, it seems that physician-owned facilities are able to make a modest profit on these lower-reimbursing insurers. How can anyone conclude that physician-owned facilities are detrimental to community hospitals?
