The Pennsylvania Health Care Quality Alliance has launched a Web site to allow consumers to compare hospital quality data.
The site, which uses hospital data reported to Medicare, the Joint Commission and the Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council, lets consumers examine acute-care facilities performance in four clinical areas: heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and prevention of infections. More quality measures will be added in the future, according to an alliance news release.
The reports on the new site do not replace state and federal data reporting requirements, according to the alliance, which consists of the states hospitals, Blue Cross insurers, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, government officials and quality organizations.
Visitors to the site can review historical performance of individual acute-care hospitals and compare their scores to state and federal averages. -- by Jean DerGurahian
