When I saw that John Mitchells article, The hard work of culture was on the most-requested articles list, I was not surprised. I have written and spoken extensively on the topic of corporate culture. Speaking is just a part-time thing for me. I mostly focus on running Attainia, a healthcare software company. So when I'm invited to speak at an event, most people have no clue who I am or what I am there to discuss. In other words, there is no initial buzz in the air.
However, once I start talking about corporate culture, even the most jaded of healthcare executives usually become quite animated. I frequently hear comments such as I am hired to know the numbers, but this cultural stuff, this is what I really spend most of my time managing. And yet, nobody seems to talk about it much. So, it is refreshing to read Mitchell's article. This really is the stuff that matters most.
