Regarding "HIMSS gets Googled":
The conference theme song Our Time Is Now at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society meeting represents for some of us that consumers are finally being substituted for doctors as the center of the healthcare universe. We believe this shift will drive enormous value out of a bloated, inefficient industry that is slow to adopt new ideas. Microsoft Corp. and Google are not alone in this invasion. Steve Cases RevolutionHealth and my company, Healthline Networks, are also investing many millions of dollars to make consumers more intelligent in how they utilize healthcare services. Together we are in front of more American healthcare consumers than all of the doctors and hospitals combinedeveryday, including weekends. Will the search and decision-support tools we continuously build and refine help consumers accelerate change in this industry? You bet it will, and it has already started. Thus, we should all applaud HIMSS leadership for permitting vocal advocates for healthcare consumers to take center stage at the conference.
