Reality is setting in. Hopefully we can use this report to begin the needed overhaul of how medicine is practiced in the U.S. The bottom line is that if we can keep people out of the hospital or at least use it as our final option, we can begin to see savings in the Medicare system.
Regardless if it is a medical home or the Independence at Home plan that is being discussed, patients need to be brought back to the physician, who, in theory, should be able to control the cost of providing care. However, at this time, we have a government that prefers to put a Band-Aid fix on physicians payment rather than use it as a mechanism to encourage good, affordable and, most importantly, responsible patient care.
