Elliot Joseph, a senior executive at Ascension Health, has been tapped to be the new president and chief executive officer at 560-bed Hartford (Conn.) Hospital in early April when he will also become CEO-designee of Hartford Healthcare Corp., the hospitals parent organization.
Joseph, 53, succeeds John Meehan, who announced his retirement last July. Meehan, who arrived at Hartford in 1979 and has been CEO since 1989, will remain CEO of the corporation until the end of the year.
Prior to joining Ascension, Joseph was president and CEO of seven-hospital St. John Health in Warren, Mich., a part of the Ascension system. He holds a bachelor of science degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton, a master's degree in health services administration from the University of Michigan, and is an alumnus of the Wharton CEO program for healthcare leadership. -- by Cinda Becker
