Sutter Health, Sacramento, Calif., is creating a new physician network of more than 3,000 primary-care and specialist physicians in Northern California. The Sutter Medical Network will include all eight of Sutter Healths affiliated physician groups, including the Palo Alto Medical Foundation, as well as four independent physician associations.
Jeffrey Burnich will serve in the new position of senior vice president and executive officer of the Sutter Medical Network and will report to Patrick Fry, Sutter Healths president and chief executive officer. Burnich previously was chief medical officer and senior vice president of system care management for Mount Carmel Health System in Columbus, Ohio.
The goal is to provide more consistent service delivery, better referral coordination and the best clinical practices to patients across the region, Burnich said. The physician groups and associations will coordinate pay-for-performance through the network. And in March, they will convert to a standard electronic health-record platform. What this network allows us to do under federal regulations is to work together on reducing clinical variations because that leads to better outcomes, Burnich said.
