The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology at HHS is seeking public comment on a 21-page interim draft report, the work product of a federally financed effort to provide consensus definitions of five key healthcare IT termselectronic health records, electronic medical records, personal health records, regional health information organizations and health information exchanges.
In October, ONCHIT awarded a contract valued at about $500,000 to technology and management consultant BearingPoint, McLean, Va., which included a subcontract to the not-for-profit National Alliance for Health Information Technology, Chicago, to seek consensus within the healthcare industry around the meaning of the terms. Comments will be solicited at two public meetings Feb. 26-27 during the annual Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society convention in Orlando, Fla. Comments also may be submitted online at www.definitions.nahit.org.
