Gov. Ed Rendell has renewed his call to offer state defined coverage to every willing adult in the state. The plan first announced in January 2007, would be funded from surpluses in the states Health Care Provider Retention Account, which helps physicians defray the cost of their medical malpractice premiums. All eligible, uninsured adult Pennsylvaniansno matter what their employment status or income levelwould be able to purchase affordable health insurance through the program, with subsidies for those in families of four earning up to $62,000 a year.
