Brookdale Senior Living, Chicago, said Mark Schulte, formerly the companys co-chief executive officer, was elected to Brookdales board of directors on Feb. 7 and subsequently resigned as co-CEO. Bill Sheriffwho served as the other CEO with Schultewill remain as the companys sole CEO.
I believe this transition is the right result for Brookdale in that it creates clear accountability at the executive level, Schulte said in a company news release. At the same time, I am excited about my new role as a board member of the company so I can continue to make a contribution to the companys success while also allowing me to pursue other entrepreneurial opportunities.
In the announcement, Bill Doniger, Brookdales vice chairman, said that Sheriff has 23 years in the healthcare industry and has earned the respect of the entire organization including the board of directors as the consummate operator with a tireless work ethic.
Established in 1978, Brookdale operates more than 550 senior living and retirement communities and provides services to 52,000 residents across the country. -- by Jessica Zigmond
