Publicly traded IAC, the owner of a gaggle of diverse e-businesses that includes Ask.com, LendingTree.com and Ticketmaster, as well as the cable TV-based HSN, has announced the acquisition of a minority interest in the HealthCentral Network, a purveyor of health and wellness portals, for an undisclosed amount.
New York-based IAC is headed by movie mogul Barry Diller, the former chairman and chief executive officer of Paramount Pictures Corp. and 20th Century Fox. Early last year, IAC also invested in Medem, the physician portal founded in 1999 by the American Medical Association and several physician specialty societies.
In November 2007, IAC announced it was splitting itself into five separate companies. The breakup is expected to be complete by the second or third quarter of this year, according to the company.
