Leah Binder will become chief executive officer of the Leapfrog Group effective March 10, the organization announced.
Binder's appointment ends a five-month search for a new CEO following Suzanne Delbanco's resignation last year. The Washington-based quality improvement and patient safety advocate, which works to leverage healthcare buyers' purchasing power, expects Binder to continue her expertise in fundraising and expand Leapfrog's goal of fostering change in the healthcare industry.
Binder, 45, currently serves as vice president of Franklin Community Health Network, Farmington, Maine, overseeing system operations in marketing, planning and public health outreach. She also serves as executive director of the Healthy Community Coalition and Franklin Health Access within the network. In addition, she raised more than $8 million in new grant funding for 56-bed Franklin Memorial Hospital, Farmington, the primary facility in the health system.
She holds a master's degree in government administration from the Fels Institute of Government and a master's degree in communication, both at the University of Pennsylvania, and a bachelor's degree from Brandeis University. -- by Jean DerGurahian
