West Penn Allegheny Health System named Christopher Olivia, M.D., as president and chief executive officer. Olivia, 45, will succeed W. Keith Smith, the Pittsburgh-based systems interim chief executive since the July resignation of Jerry Fedele over unresolved differences between the departing executive and West Penn Alleghenys board, the system said in a statement announcing Fedeles exit.
In a news release announcing the appointment, Smith praised Olivias ability to effectively integrate staff and services, and build relationships. He has shown the ability to bring people and programs together in a most cohesive and productive fashion, Smith said. Olivia earned his medical degree at Hahnmann Medical School and holds a masters in business administration from the University of Pennsylvanias Wharton School. -- by Melanie Evans
