Community Health Systems, Franklin, Tenn., has hired the head of the Nashville Health Care Council to fill a new position as the companys vice president of government relations, according to the council. Matthew Gallivan, 49, has been president of the council for more than 10 years. In that time, the council has quadrupled in size to include about 160 members. During his tenure, Gallivan led six delegations on foreign trade missions, and the council, with Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, created a health-policy think tank, the Health Care Solutions Group.
Community Health is a member of the council. Wayne Smith, the companys chairman, president and chief executive officer, also is the current chairman of the councils board. Smith will be part of a committee that will conduct a search for Gallivans replacement. Caroline Young, the councils vice president, will serve as interim president when Gallivan steps down at the end of the month, according to the council. -- by Vince Galloro
