The cost of a new computer system to run the Medicaid program in Wisconsin has climbed to $64.2 million, or about double the amount projected when the project started.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, which had reported on previous increases in the cost in recent months, said in a story on its Web site Thursday that the latest added costs included $18.7 million worth of expenses that had not been disclosed before.
The new system, to be completed next October, is being done by EDS Corp. to manage the finances of the Medicaid program, processing 30 million claims a year for 51,000 providers of SeniorCare, BadgerCare and other programs. It replaces one built by EDS in 1977.
The federal government is paying about 90% of the cost, with the rest to be paid by state taxpayers.
