Oregons public health director, Susan Allan, has resigned effective Feb. 1, the state Department of Human Services announced.
Allan has headed the department since March 2005. A native of Washington state, she is leaving Oregon to join her husband in Seattle.
Previously, she directed public health services for the Arlington County, Va., Department of Human Services.
Dr. Allan has brought much-needed focus on strengthening and modernizing the states public health programs, Oregon DHS Director Bruce Goldberg said in a written statement, citing better emergency preparedness, an increased number of school-based clinics, tobacco cessation programs and safer drinking water.
