Community Health Systems, Franklin, Tenn., continues to slim down after its $6.97 billion acquisition of Triad Hospitals in July. Community said it has reached a definitive agreement to sell 78-bed Russell County Medical Center, Lebanon, Va., to not-for-profit Mountain States Health Alliance, Johnson City, Tenn. Terms were not disclosed. The deal is expected to close in early 2008, according to Community.
Community has sold three hospitals since buying Triad and its 52 hospitals. It has two other deals pending that would trim another 10 hospitals from its portfolio of 126 hospitals in 28 states and one in Ireland. Mountain States Health Alliance owns or operates 11 hospitals in Tennessee and Virginia. -- by Vince Galloro
