The North Carolina Healthcare Information and Communications Alliance and the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange have released their first timeline database that estimates when standards and regulations proposed by federal agencies and national organizations will be implemented.
The first regulatory timeline tracks implementation of the 5010 version of HIPAA transactions and estimates it will be completed in 2014, which affects ICD-10 clinical coding systems, according to a joint news release.
The timeline project is designed to help organizations approach standards initiatives from a "project management" perspective, said Holt Anderson, executive director of the North Carolina alliance in a statement.
The alliance, based in Research Triangle Park, serves as a forum for healthcare information technology initiatives. The Reston, Va.-based electronic data work group is a trade association that helps companies simplify processes associated with healthcare electronic data exchange. The two groups hope to expand the timeline project into other regulations, including electronic-prescribing.
