Hospital employment rose by about 0.2% in November, or 7,700 workers, to roughly 4.57 million employees, according to preliminary, seasonally adjusted figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. For the year that ended in November, hospitals added around 112,000 workers, or a 2.5% increase. The gain of 112,000 employees is the largest 12-month increase since the 12 months that ended in May 2002.
Physician-office employment grew by around 0.3%, or 7,100 employees, to reach 2.25 million workers, the labor data show. For the 12 months that ended Nov. 30, physician office payrolls grew by 73,700 workers, a 3.4% increase. -- by Melanie Evans
