HCA, CVS Caremark Corp., and Philips Healthcare are among eight organizations founding the Health Information Trust Alliance, or HITrust, a new organization dedicated to developing a common framework to keep health records secure.
The alliance said it plans to develop standard practices that can be used across the healthcare industry to ensure that private health records aren't breached. The process should take about a year.
Other founding members include Cisco Systems, insurers Highmark and Humana, Johnson & Johnson and Pitney Bowes. PricewaterhouseCoopers is a consultant to the alliance.
