European electronics and healthcare technology giant Royal Philips Electronics, Amsterdam, Netherlands, has announced it will acquire Emergin, a Boca Raton, Fla.-based developer of wireless emergency alarm communications systems within hospitals, according to the companies.
Privately held Emergin, founded in 1995, has about 100 employees and estimated 2007 sales of $18 million, according to a news release. Philips will position the acquired company in its patient-monitoring business unit once the sale closes, which is expected to occur by year-end. Terms of the deal were undisclosed. -- by Joseph Conn
