MedCath Corp., Charlotte, N.C., said it completed the sale of its stake in the Heart Hospital of Lafayette (La.), to the Heart Hospital of Acadiana for about $25 million. Our Lady of Lourdes, a Lafayette-based community hospital, co-owns the Heart Hospital of Acadiana with local physicians. The deal is subject to closing conditions. MedCath announced that it would sell its 51% share of the Heart Hospital of Lafayette to a group of physicians in February. The hospital opened in March 2004 and has 32 inpatient beds, two catheterization labs and two operating rooms.
MedCath owns interests in 10 hospitals in Arizona, Arkansas, California, Louisiana, New Mexico, Ohio, South Dakota and Texas. It also owns an interest in a hospital that is in development in Arizona. MedCath and its subsidiary MedCath Partners manage cardiovascular programs at other hospitals and provide diagnostic and therapeutic facilities in various states. -- by Jessica Zigmond
