University of Miami, Coral Gables, Fla., has completed its purchase of 350-bed Cedars Medical Center, Miami, for $260 million, said the seller, HCA, Nashville. Cedars has been renamed the University of Miami Hospital, and it is the first time that the universitys Miller School of Medicine has owned a hospital in its 55 years. HCA and the university announced a letter of intent to negotiate the sale in March. HCA owns or operates 169 hospitals. -- by Vince Galloro
