Iain Sanderson, M.D., has been named chief medical information officer for Health Sciences South Carolina, or HSSC, Columbia, a healthcare research collaborative involving six major South Carolina healthcare organizations, HSSC announced. Sanderson, 47, will have a tenured faculty appointment at the Medical University of South Carolina and the appointment to an endowed chair at the Center for Healthcare Quality at HSSC, according to a news release. Sanderson comes to the job from Duke University, where he has served since 2003 as associate chief information officer for the Duke University Health System, Durham, N.C. He is board certified in anesthesiology and served in the department of anesthesiology at Duke for 15 years. Sanderson received a degree in clinical medicine from the Oxford University Medical School and a masters of science in the foundations of advanced information technology from the Imperial College, London.
