The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration has suspended Cardinal Health’s license to distribute controlled substances from its Auburn, Wash., distribution center.
According to a DEA news release, Cardinal, a Dublin, Ohio-based healthcare supply-chain solutions company, ignored warnings from the agency about rogue Internet pharmacies and sold more than 600,000 doses of the opioid hydrocodone to Horen’s Drug Store, a Burlington, Wash.-based pharmacy accused of filling illegal Internet prescriptions for the substance.
The suspension, according to a Cardinal new release, begins Dec. 3. The company will undergo an administrative hearing within the next 60 days, followed by a decision from the DEA deputy administrator on whether to reinstate or permanently suspend the Auburn location’s distribution license. -- by Shawn Rhea
