Joshua Kugler, M.D., has been named senior vice president and chief medical officer at South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside, N.Y.
Kugler, 38, had been serving as interim medical director since January 2007, and on Jan. 11 he replaces Akram Boutros, M.D., who was named executive vice president and chief administrative officer at St. Francis Hospital-the Heart Center, Roslyn, N.Y. In addition to his CMO post, Boutros was also the chief operating officer and executive vice president at South Nassau.
Kugler, chairman of South Nassaus department of emergency medicine and co-chair of its ethics committee, also serves on the state Health Department advisory committee and the American College of Emergency Physicians professional development committee.
Previously, Kugler was the associate director of emergency medicine at St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson, N.Y., and he has also worked at hospitals in Florida, Maryland, Mississippi and Virginia. He served in the U.S. Navy for nine years, finishing with the rank of lieutenant commander.
Kugler earned his M.D. at the University of Pittsburgh, and he received a Master of Science degree in health management from Harvard University. -- by Andis Robeznieks
