In an effort to unite healthcare practitioners under its umbrella group, the International Association of Dental and Medical Disciplines will add notebook computers to its list of membership perks.
The Salem, N.H.-based organization's mission is to connect practitioners through the use of healthcare information technology, according to a news release. In addition to offering a free Web site and hosting, e-mail and a marketing package, the group believes giving away IBM ThinkPads will encourage doctors to join.
"If we want the disciplines to talk with one another, we believe we should give members the tools to do that," said John Ryan, president and chief executive officer of the association, in a written statement.
The 2-year-old organization requests annual dues of $1,899. The IADMD said its perks are valued at about $5,000.
