Iowa Health System promoted Bill Leaver, 55, to succeed retiring President and Chief Executive Officer Samuel Wallace, 64. Leaver, who joined Iowa Health in 2001, is president and CEO of Trinity Regional Health System, which includes two Iowa Health hospitals: Trinity Medical Center West, a 327-bed hospital with campuses in Rock Island, Ill., and Moline, Ill., and 91-bed Trinity at Terrace Park in Bettendorf, Iowa.
Leavers appointment came less than a week after Wallaces previously named successor, Howard Kern, backed out of the job. Kern, president and chief operating officer of Sentara Healthcare, cited significant family considerations as reason for his decision to remain with Norfolk, Va.-based Sentara, Iowa Health said in a written statement. -- by Melanie Evans
