Baptist Memorial Health Care Corp., Jonesboro, Ark., said it closed its previously announced deal to acquire a 60% interest in 104-bed Northeast Arkansas Medical Center (Jonesboro) from Brentwood, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems for between $40 million and $45 million on Oct. 31. More than 90 physicians from the NEA Clinica physician owned multispecialty group practice in the regionwill continue to own a 40% stake in the facility, now known as NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital.
The not-for-profit Baptist Memorial system has 15 hospitals, some minor medical centers and a network of surgery, rehabilitation and other outpatient centers. The system also provides home, hospice and psychiatric care throughout western Tennessee, northern Mississippi and northeastern Arkansas. -- by Jessica Zigmond
