In response to "Patient Safety Institute folds due to lack of funding":
I thought this article was very interesting. As I was reading, I couldn't help but think that the original priority for the electronic health record is and has always been patient safety. I was glad to see as I continued reading that this article did address the topic of patient safety as far as a benefit of the interconnected network.
I think the other important point to mention is not to forget about the legislative mandate of having an interoperable EHR system by Jan. 1, 2015.
Though the financial benefit remains an issue, working on these financial challenges must be made a priority. We must keep patient benefits at the forefront and the legislative mandate as an added motivation.
