Washington, D.C., Mayor Adrian Fenty removed Gregg Pane, a former executive at Henry Ford Health System, Detroit, from the top post at the citys Health Department and named Carlos Cano, a psychiatrist and family therapist, as its interim director. Fenty said a national search is under way to find a permanent replacement.
Public health is a critical priority for my administration as we look forward to finding the right leadership to take an aggressive and innovative approach to addressing health issues facing the District of Columbia, Fenty said in a written statement.
Cano has served as senior deputy director for the citys community health administration, which includes more than 200 employees who oversee more than 50 federally and locally funded programs. -- by Matthew DoBias
