First Health Services Corp., Glen Allen, Va., a provider of pharmacy benefits management, disease management, benefits administration and other services for state Medicaid programs, announced an agreement with pharmacy exchange services provider SureScripts. The companies' data-sharing collaboration will provide prescription drug information on nearly 11 million Medicaid patients to physicians and other prescribers in 13 states and the District of Columbia. The states are Alaska, Kentucky, Michigan, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and, in 2008, Florida.
According to a news release, First Health Services began the testing process toward becoming certified by SureScripts as a user of its pharmacy health information exchange.
SureScripts, based in Alexandria, Va., is a for-profit corporation founded in 2001 by the two major trade associations for the retail pharmacy industry, the National Association of Chain Drug Stores and the National Community Pharmacists Association.
