The Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center's School of Medicine, New Orleans, has named Steve Nelson, M.D., as dean, effective immediately. Larry Hollier, M.D., who had been named dean in January 2004, was appointed chancellor in November 2005 and chose to remain dean in the months after Hurricane Katrina. Later, Hollier appointed a committee to conduct a search for his successor. Nelson, 54, joined the LSU Health Sciences Center faculty in 1984 and became professor of medicine 10 years later. Last year, Nelson was appointed program director of the Tulane/LSU Health Sciences Center General Clinical Research Center at University Hospital.
