CareSource, a not-for-profit managed-care company serving Ohio, will purchase Community Choice Michigan, a Medicaid managed-care plan, for an undisclosed sum, the company said.
Dayton, Ohio-based CareSource has had a management contract with Community Choice Michigan since 2003, a spokeswoman for CareSource said.
Community Choice Michigan, a not-for-profit founded in 1995 and based in Okemos, has more than 49,000 Medicaid enrollees in 36 counties in that state, mostly in rural areas. In January, the insurer will roll out a Medicare Advantage plan to people in Michigan who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid.
CareSource has more than 544,000 Medicaid enrollees in Ohio.
The transaction is expected to close by year-end, subject to approval from Michigan regulators. -- by Rebecca Vesely
