The California Public Employees' Retirement System has named John Saxon as chief of its Innovation Services Division.
Saxon will lead planning, policy development and operations for nine information technology areas including enterprise architecture, business development, business engineering, data and security administration, and enterprise quality assurance, with a staff of 138 IT professionals.
"I am confident that his skills and expertise will be a valuable asset to CalPERS as we develop and implement technology systems for managing and delivering the services our members and employers expect and want from their retirement system," Teri Bennett, assistant executive officer for the CalPERS IT Services Branch, said in a written statement.
Prior to joining CalPERS, Saxon served as deputy director of the Architected Services Division of the State of Californias Legislative Data Center. In the private sector he served as a system engineer for Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. and Aerojet General Corp.
CalPERS is the largest public pension fund in the nation, with assets of more than $250 billion. It administers retirement and health benefits for 1.5 million current and retired California public employees and their families on behalf of 2,600 state and local government employers. -- by Rebecca Vesely/ HITS staff writer
