In this age of transparency, healthcare architects are being just as diligent to deliver results, only from a different perspective: placing a premium on sunlight as well as the use of indoor and outdoor trees and plants. Theyre also finding ways to connect and unify existing buildings with new construction.
For every project we picked, natural light was oneif not the majororganization design, says Peter Ellis, a partner with Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in Chicago and a design awards judge. Some projects that came close to receiving an awardbut didnthad large parts that were not organized around natural light and didnt reach that same level of excellence.
