James Walker, the longtime president and chief executive officer of 293-bed Baltimore Washington Medical Center, Glen Burnie, Md., known for steering the hospital through a massive growth spurt while boosting quality, said he would retire by June, 2008.
Walker, 63, began his career at Baltimore Washington in 1969, when it was called North Arundel Hospital. In his 38-year tenure, he was promoted from an assistant administrator to chief operating officer and finally to CEO 15 years ago. A successor has not been named. -- by Matthew DoBias
