Signature Hospital Corp., Houston, said it has hired long-time hospital executive David Spencer as senior vice president of operations development. Spencer will lead the privately held companys efforts at applying process-improvement concepts, developed in manufacturing, at Signatures four hospitals.
Spencer, 67, managed the healthcare business solutions unit at Eastman Kodak Co. from 2004 until March 2007. Before that, he founded and ran two healthcare information technology companies, Key Insights and Safety-Centered Solutions.
Spencer also has extensive experience with both for-profit and not-for-profit hospitals. Spencer was president and chief executive officer of the hospital management unit of Hospital Affiliates International, Nashville, when it was sold to HCA in 1982; he spent eight years in total with the company. Spencer then went on to become president and chief executive officer of the Voluntary Hospitals of Americas management services unit from 1982 through 1988. -- by Vince Galloro
