The Veterans Affairs Department will build a trauma facility designed to help patients
with multiple serious injuries at its campus in San Antonio.
The polytrauma facility will be the fifth in the VA system and is expected to cost at

The city already has the National Trauma Institute, a congressionally funded
military-civilian trauma facility, and an increasing number of military medical personnel
are expected to be concentrated at Fort Sam Houston under realignment plans.
The VA has polytrauma facilities in Minneapolis; Tampa, Fla.; Palo Alto, Calif.; and
