It amazes me that Modern Healthcare lists the 100 most powerful people in healthcare as if it were etched in stone (Religious Experience, Aug. 27, p. 8). Your list is a joke! No one in healthcare gives a flying rats posterior about this list as it is a figment of Modern Healthcares imagination. The fact that you list Newt Gingrich destroys any credibility the list might have, but the fact is the list is meaningless and worthless at the same time. You need to get your heads out of your behinds and start recognizing that the most important people in healthcare are not impotent policymakers and ineffective politicians along with others so far removed from the actual delivery of patient care that they have no idea what they are talking about. Once again you display an ignorance of healthcare and promote a list of people who have little or no effect on the delivery of care. That is what Modern Healthcare is best at. Seventy-eight million baby boomers started turning 60 last year. Everyone is screaming that something must be done to change the system. Yet no one is willing to face the facts that those 78 million people will be receiving more and more healthcare, and the government thinks it will be able to reduce Medicare spending because the system is so wasteful. The cry continues that there is a lot of waste and inefficiency in the system, and costs can be reduced while access and quality can be increased. Do you want to do something meaningful? Stop promoting this lie!!!!!! It is politicians, bureaucrats and insurers that are destroying the system. It is going to take a lot more money to treat patients if hospitals are going to have economic stability. If not, the U.S. healthcare system is doomed to the fate of public education. Amazing that we can fund billions for war but not one more penny for healthcare. Many hospitals are receiving less than cost from Medicare and Medicaid. Add uncompensated care and how do you expect hospitals to survive? The system will become second rate and of poor quality. Heres the clue how you will know when that happens: Foreign dignitaries and heads of state will go to other countries for their healthcare!
