Community Health Systems, Franklin, Tenn., said it has sold the operations of 75-bed River West Medical Center, Plaquemine, La., to privately held Shiloh Health Services, Lubbock, Texas. The hospital is leased from HCP (formerly known as Health Care Property Investors), Long Beach, Calif. No terms were disclosed. The sale was effective Sept. 1.
The deal is the third divestiture that Community has made since it acquired Triad Hospitals, Plano, Texas, in July for $6.97 billion, and it is the first of a hospital that Community operated before the Triad deal. The other pending divestitures are in Arkansas and Texas. Community owns or operates 128 hospitals in 28 states.
Also, Tenet Healthcare Corp., Dallas, said that its leases expired on two Dallas hospitals owned by MetroCrest Hospital Authority as expected since the authoritys decision to lease the facilities to Hospital Partners of America, Charlotte, N.C., was announced in August 2006. Privately held HPA operates five hospitals in California and Texas. Tenet owns or operates 58 hospitals, including two held for sale. -- by Vince Galloro
