Hartford (Conn.) Healthcare Corp. will acquire Windham Community Memorial Hospital, Willimantic, Conn., officials said. Under the deal, which officials hope to close by the end of 2007, 79-bed Windham will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Hartford Healthcare, said system spokeswoman Lee Monroe. Hartford Healthcare owns two other acute-care hospitals: 593-bed Hartford (Conn.) Hospital and 124-bed MidState Medical Center, Meriden, Conn. The partners, which entered into a strategic agreement in May 2006, expect to refinance by October Windhams $15 million debt from a 1993 expansion project that added a wing to the hospital, Windham spokeswoman Mona Friedland said. The refinancing is projected to save Windham roughly $300,000, she said. -- by Melanie Evans
