What does HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt have in common with your kids? The nations top healthcare chief, like so many young adults before him, has started a blog.
Following up on his previous entry into blogdomon flu pandemicsLeavitt began posting again on Aug. 13, pledging to write as much as he can, whenever he can, on a wide range of topics.
Judging by a handful of postings so far on secretarysblog.hhs.gov, the secretary seems true to his word. On Aug. 21, for instance, the well-traveled Leavitt writes poignantly about a group of young orphans he met while riding through South Africa. I sat next to a little boy of 9 or 10, he wrote. He was writing and drawing in a book. I asked to see what he had done. About three or four pages in, I found, written in his handwriting, a note that started out, I miss my Mother and little brother.
At other times, unfortunately, the postings read more like an HHS news release, as when he writes about a meeting of the American Health Information Community. Lets hope he stays personal in the future.
