John Wennberg, M.D., director of the Center for the Evaluative Clinical Sciences at Dartmouth College, stepped down from that post last month . Dartmouth, Hanover, N.H., named James Weinstein, D.O, to succeed 73-year-old Wennberg, who remains principal investigator with the Dartmouth Atlas Project. As of Aug. 1, the center was renamed the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice. Weinstein, 57, is chairman of orthopedic surgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, N.H., and founded its Spine Center and Center for Shared Decision Making. He is also a professor of orthopedic surgery as well as community and family medicine at Dartmouth Medical School. Modern Physician readers ranked Wennberg 41st on this years list of the 50 Most Powerful Physician Executives in Healthcare (May 7).
