Fred Sanfilippo, M.D., a physician-scientist who currently is senior vice president and executive dean of health sciences at Ohio State University, Columbus, has been named executive vice president for health affairs and CEO of the Woodruff Health Sciences Center and chairman of Emory Healthcare at Emory University, Atlanta. Sanfilippo, 57, officially takes the reins on Oct. 1. He succeeds Michael Johns, M.D., who held those posts for 11 years. Johns, 65, has been named chancellor of Emory University. Sanfilippo, an expert in transplant immunology, has served as president of the American Society of Transplantation and the American Society of Investigative Pathology and is a member of the Association of Academic Health Centers' board of directors.
