SureScripts has teamed up with medical groups, insurers, and a corporation to launch the
Management, an organization that will seek ways to improve the safety, quality and
efficiency of the patient-medication management process.
The center will be charged with gathering and disseminating best practices for deployment
of technology that electronically links physicians, pharmacists and patients, as well as
conducting research on how physicians, pharmacists and patients can use technology and
health information exchange to improve the way medications are managed.
The groups mission was praised by the federal government. Medication adherence is
Americas new drug problem, said Carolyn Clancy, director of the Agency for Healthcare
Research and Quality. AHRQ is pleased to see that such an esteemed group is working
together on solutions to this problem.
SureScripts was founded by the National Association of Chain Drug Stores and the National
Community Pharmacists Association to facilitate the electronic exchange of prescription
information and ensure the safety of the prescribing process. Other participants in the
center include the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield
Association, Humana, Intel Corp. and the Medical Group Management Association.-- by href="mailto:[email protected]">Jennifer Lubell
