Gary Blan, president and CEO of St. Clares Health System, said he will retire on Jan. 1, 2008, when the sponsorship of the four-hospital system changes from Tulsa, Okla.-based Marian Health System to Catholic Health Initiatives, Denver. Blans retirement will mark his seventh anniversary as the leader of the Denville, N.J.-based system. St. Clares announced in March that it had agreed to become a member organization of CHI after an extensive nationwide search. Terms of the final agreement are nearing completion with final approval pending with the New Jersey attorney general, officials said. Blan, 60, said he will remain active with St. Clares Foundation. Steven Ruwoldt was named CEO of Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, N.Y., succeeding Arthur Brien, who resigned in September 2006 in the wake of a dispute with a major medical group in the area. Ruwoldt, 52, most recently served as president of Lutheran Hospital in Cleveland, part of the Cleveland Clinic Health System. Mark Frey is scheduled to take over as CEO of the Alexian Bros. Hospital Network and executive vice president of Alexian Bros. Health System, Arlington Heights, Ill., on Sept. 1. He succeeds Dean Grant, who announced his retirement after more than 30 years with the multistate, Catholic-sponsored health system. Frey, 52, is currently president and CEO of Alexian Bros. Behavioral Health Hospital in Hoffman Estates, Ill.; CEO of the Alexian Bros. Rehabilitation Hospital in Elk Grove Village, Ill.; and vice president of the Alexian Neurosciences Institute. He has worked in a variety of capacities for the Alexian Bros. system for more than 25 years.
