Suzanne Delbanco, 39, resigned as chief executive officer of the Leapfrog Group effective this fall, the organization announced.
Delbanco founded Leapfrog in 2000 at age 32 to help providers and insurers improve care and rationalize costs, with backing from the Business Roundtable and major foundations.
Delbanco will continue in her position through this fall while helping to oversee the search for her replacement.
Delbanco was No. 85 on Modern Healthcare's 100 Most Powerful People in Healthcare ranking in 2006, and one of the magazine's Top 25 Women in Healthcare in 2005.
She has no definitive plans for the future but wants to be "more hands-on" on the consumer side of healthcare, she said in an interview.
"I'm ready to tackle the morass that is our healthcare system from a different perspective," she said. "I want to make the healthcare system easier for consumers to navigate."
Meanwhile, Leapfrog will "continue to be a vital force in pushing more leaps forward in healthcare," Jill Berger, chairwoman of the Leapfrog Group, said in a written statement. -- by Rebecca Vesely
